Job description

Senior Software Engineer – AI Platform & Developer Tooling

About the Role

You will be the hands-on engineer owning and evolving a portfolio of AI-adjacent products, ranging from full-stack web applications to developer CLI tools and AI agent infrastructure. You'll work at the intersection of backend engineering, cloud platforms, and the emerging world of AI agents, MCP (Model Context Protocol), and intelligent tooling. This is not a pure R&D role: you ship production code, maintain CI/CD pipelines, and take full ownership of your products.

What You'll Work On

You will own a diverse product portfolio spanning full-stack web applications (Java/Kotlin backends, Angular/VueJS frontends), Node.js CLI tooling, and a new local AI infrastructure product. Your work covers the full delivery lifecycle, from building and integrating microservices with async communication patterns, to managing CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, artifact distribution, authentication, and observability. A significant and growing part of the role sits at the frontier of AI agent tooling: you will build, maintain, and extend MCP-based infrastructure that brings AI capabilities directly into developers' workflows.

Job requirements

What You Bring

Core Engineering

  • Backend: Strong Java or Kotlin with Spring Boot; Node.js for CLI/tooling

  • Frontend: Angular or VueJS (TypeScript); comfortable reading and writing both

  • Microservices: Distributed systems design, async messaging, service integrations

  • Cloud: AWS (deployment, services, networking basics)

  • Containers: Docker, Docker Compose; understanding of local dev orchestration

  • Artifact management: Experience with Artifactory or similar registries

DevOps & Delivery

  • GitLab CI/CD: Pipeline authoring, runners, package/container registry

  • Observability: Logging, metrics, tracing; Grafana and collector setup

AI & Agent Ecosystem (differentiating requirement)

  • Solid understanding of how AI agents work and how to build for them

  • Hands-on knowledge of MCP (Model Context Protocol) — what it is, how servers/clients interact

  • Familiarity with Skills / AI Harness frameworks

  • Experience integrating tools into agent environments (Cursor, Kiro, or equivalent)

  • Pragmatic and effective use of AI-assisted development: you leverage LLMs and agents to automate the repetitive, but you understand what you're shipping and own it

Mindset

  • You take end-to-end ownership — from design to production

  • You can work across multiple products without losing context

  • You're curious about the AI tooling space and keep up with its fast pace

  • You don't vibecode blindly — you use AI as leverage, not as a replacement for engineering judgment

Nice to Have

  • Experience publishing or consuming MCP-compatible tools

  • Kotlin coroutines / reactive patterns

  • Familiarity with Swisscom internal platforms or enterprise SSO/auth flows
